Club History Ice hockey started in the city of Newcastle in the 1970s, at the Wharf Road rink under Newcastle West's 'The Store' complex. Originally the Newcastle Red Wings, the Red Wings were part of national leagues of the time. Due to instability there were several variations of these leagues. The Red Wings became the North Stars in 1981 and were leading the national 'Super League' at the time when the Newcastle ice rink went into liquidation.

Improve Your Skills - Attend Hockey Training

The AIHL North Stars import players, Chris Belanger, Peter Cartwright, Blaire Tassone and Brian Bales will be passing on their knowledge during the second winter comp training sessions starting on the 19th July.

Don't miss this opportunity to be trained for 10 weeks by these professional players before they go back home.

Chris Belanger: From 1995-2006 Belanger played hockey in Europe (Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany), which included a gold medal in 1999-2000 with the Canadian National Team. Since 1923, Belanger is the only player to play in six consecutive Spengler Cups for Team Canada, and collected two gold medals, a silver and a bronze. In 532 professional games, Belanger recorded 548 points as a defenceman.
Peter Cartwright: Picked up 60 points from 28 games including 30 goals, second highest tally in Eredivisie. Peter has played 58 games for the CHL's Arizona Sun Dogs in 08-09.
Blaire Tassone: Scored 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points in only 23 Eredivisie games for the Groningen Grizzlies, making him the highest-scoring defenceman in the league over the regular season.
Brian Bales
: 08-09 season with the Seawolves had him win recognition as a two-way player and secondary scoring with 16 points from 34 NCAA games. As a high school senior Bales scored an impressive 61 points from 54 games for the USHL's Sioux City Musketeers.

2010 Winter In House Competitions

The second Winter 2010 In house competition will begin on Monday 19th July 2010 and end on Sunday 26th September 2010. Both winter comps run for 10 weeks.
In house training will be provided at a cost of $100 per comp of 10 weeks, and will be run by AIHL import players. These practices will be designed to compliment the more intense programs developed in the Hockey schools, the second of which will run this July (Hockey school enquiries and registration at the Pro shop).

The training time will be 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday nights coinciding with the winter competitions.
Mark the dates in your diaries and keep an eye out for further information on the website and to your emails if you have already registered.
